South Korea ruling party leader announces resignation NHK

The leader of South Korea's ruling party says he is stepping down from the post.

Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the People Power Party, made the announcement at a news conference on Monday.

Han pushed back against the party line and supported the impeachment motion on President Yoon Suk-yeol.

In Saturday's vote, the bill passed the National Assembly with at least 12 PPP members in favor.

Criticism has risen that Han caused division and conflict. Some in the party have been demanding that he should take responsibility.

After the impeachment motion passed, all five members of the party's supreme council stepped down.

Han said, "It has become impossible to carry out my duties as party leader."
