The US State Department has said Secretary of State Marco Rubio will meet with a Russian delegation in the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh, on Tuesday.

Media have reported that senior US and Russian officials will meet to discuss the situation in Ukraine.

Spokesperson Tammy Bruce told reporters on Monday that National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff will join Rubio for the talks with the Russians.

Rubio flew to Riyadh on Monday.

On the Russian side, a presidential spokesperson said Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and presidential aide Yuri Ushakov will hold talks with the Americans.

Dmitry Peskov told reporters that President Putin has instructed the two to attend the talks in Riyadh.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also visiting the Middle East. He said on his social media account on Sunday that he arrived in the United Arab Emirates.

A video that he posted along with the message shows Zelenskyy in talks with a UAE minister.

He will reportedly visit other places in the region, including Saudi Arabia, later in the week.
