A group of Jewish Americans has staged a surprise demonstration in the UN headquarters in New York, demanding the US government support an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
About 40 people from across the United States entered the building on Tuesday, pretending to be tourists. They protested in the galleries of the General Assembly Hall and the Security Council Chamber.
The protesters displayed banners and placards that were hidden in their bags, calling for a ceasefire to prevent further civilian casualties.
No UN conferences were scheduled at the time where the incident took place. Security personnel eventually ejected the protesters from the building.
They then continued their protest outside. One protester said that the Biden administration should stop vetoing "any meaningful resolution at the Security Council."
The person said that more and more Palestinians are being killed and expelled from their homes as the war continues, and that is putting more and more Jews at risk. The protestor added, "This is not for anyone's safety."
Another person said, "The refusal to support a ceasefire actually isolates the United States relative to the rest of the world."
