Japanese professional soccer club Cerezo Osaka says former Samurai Blue star Kagawa Shinji is rejoining the team after playing elsewhere for more than 12 years.
The J-League club on Wednesday announced Kagawa's transfer from Belgium's Sint-Truiden.
The 33-year-old midfielder played for Japan's national team in 97 games and scored 31 goals. He competed in the 2014 and 2018 World Cup finals.
Kagawa played for Cerezo for more than four years, from 2006. He then played for European clubs such as Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga and Manchester United in England's Premier League. He joined Sint-Truiden in January last year.
Kagawa took part in off-season training with Cerezo while playing in Europe. The Japanese club has been making him offers for several years.
Kagawa started his professional career after being invited to Cerezo by Kogiku Akio, the club's current head coach.
Kagawa is to hold a news conference on Sunday.
