11,589 new cases of COVID confirmed in Japan on Tuesday NHK

Japan's health ministry reported 11,589 new cases of the coronavirus in the country on Tuesday.

It confirmed 20 deaths.

The number of seriously ill patients decreased by two from Monday to 55.

Compared with a week ago, the number of new cases rose in 37 prefectures and fell in the 10 other prefectures.

In Tokyo, the ministry confirmed 1,696 new cases, up 206 from a week ago, and one death. The number of seriously ill patients in the capital rose by one from Monday to six. It is the first time in two months for new cases to top 1,500.
