Japan's domestic shipments of consumer electronics fell for a third straight year in 2022. Industry officials say this was mainly due to the inflationary environment depressing demand and the coronavirus lockdown in China. The Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association says domestic deliveries totaled 1.249 trillion yen, or about 9.6 billion dollars. That is down 4.8 percent in yen terms from a year earlier. The association says the prolonged lockdown in Shanghai had a major impact on manufacturing. Shipments of TVs and other video equipment dropped 8.3 percent to about 4.5 billion dollars. The association says cost-of-living increases had a major impact on their sales in the year-end holiday shopping season. Those of devices used in vehicles, such as navigation systems, fell 1.9 percent, also to about 4.5 billion dollars. However, shipments of audio equipment, such as Bluetooth speakers, increased 0.6 percent to about 560 million dollars.
