The operator of Tokyo Disney Resort is expanding into the cruise business, and officials say there'll be a host of familiar faces on board. Oriental Land has already signed a licensing agreement with a firm from the Walt Disney group. The officials say the Japanese firm has earmarked 330 billion yen, or about 2 billion dollars, to get the project up and running in fiscal 2028. They plan to offer mainly two- to four-night cruises, departing from a port in greater Tokyo. Disney characters will reportedly be among the crew tasked with keeping guests entertained. Oriental Land has recently made a series of investments on the back of surging inbound tourism. CEO Takano Yumiko says the firm plans to establish cruises as a third pillar alongside theme parks and hotels.
