Authorities detained three Thai men in connection with the collapse of a Bangkok high-rise during last month's earthquake centered in neighboring Myanmar. The men have since been released on bail. Fifty-three people are known to have died when the still under-construction building came down on March 28. More than 40 remain missing. The building's contractors were a joint venture between a major Thai builder and a local subsidiary of a Chinese state-owned company. The Department of Special Investigation of Thailand's Justice Ministry detained the three men on Monday. They are shareholders of the subsidiary and are accused of assisting foreign nationals in businesses that restrict foreigners. Earlier this month, investigators arrested a Chinese national who served as an executive of the state-owned company. He is suspected of illegally using names of Thai nationals as stand-ins to run the firm. The Chinese national is out on bail but forbidden from leaving Thailand.
