Shanshan expected to develop into very strong typhoon on Tuesday NHK

Typhoon Shanshan is expected to develop into a very strong typhoon on Tuesday and approach western to eastern Japan.

Atmospheric conditions are unstable on Sunday in western to eastern Japan. In the town of Kamiichi, Toyama Prefecture, 131 millimeters of rain fell in one hour.

Weather officials are warning of flooding in low-lying areas. They are also urging caution against mudslides and swollen rivers, as well as lightning strikes, hail and violent winds, including tornadoes.

Areas from western through eastern Japan could experience severe weather conditions, with wind and rain intensifying on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The typhoon could lead to some public transport services being cancelled.
