A group of about 1,000 reservists with the Israeli Air Force are urging the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to prioritize the release of hostages over the continuation of the fighting in the Gaza Strip.
        
                    
                  
In a letter published by Israeli newspapers on Thursday, the group said, &quot;the continuation of the war doesn&#039;t advance any of the declared goals of the war, and will bring about the deaths of the hostages, of IDF soldiers and innocent civilians.&quot;
        
                    
                  
The group also said, &quot;As has been proven in the past, only an agreement can return hostages safely.&quot;
        
                    
                  
The reservists called on all citizens of Israel to &quot;mobilize for action.&quot;
        
                    
                  
They added the fighting in Gaza now serves &quot;political and personal interests&quot; rather than national security.
        
                    
                  
Netanyahu remains adamant in continuing the fighting to eliminate the Islamic group Hamas as talks on a ceasefire and hostage release have been stalled.
        
                    
                  
In Israel, people have taken to the streets almost every day in protest against Netanyahu.
