Ukraine shows NHK its homemade maritime drone boat 'Magura' NHK

The Ukrainian government has shown NHK its naval drone Magura -- Maritime Autonomous Guard Unmanned Robotic Apparatus. It says the drones have achieved results in the fight against Russia.

The Magura was developed by Ukraine's defense ministry after the Russian invasion.

The ministry says the unmanned suicide bomber is 5.5 meters long and can navigate at speeds of over 80 kilometers per hour. It also says the drone's small size makes it difficult for the enemy to detect it. Local media say it can carry 250 kilograms of explosives.

Ministry officials say the naval drones have been used in attacks against Russian warships in the Black Sea near Crimea, which Russia unilaterally annexed.

They say the surface drones have attacked 18 Russian vessels and completely destroyed half of them, including the large landing ship Tsezar Kunikov that sank in February this year.

The commander of the drone unit said he does not know any faster drones than the Magura. He also said it is extremely important to be independent without asking for support from other countries.

He stressed that his country is pressing ahead with new technology development and has obtained results.
