Taiwan media: trouble at New Year's Eve event injures some people NHK

Local media in Taiwan are reporting that rumors about a person with a knife at a New Year's Eve event in the southern city of Kaohsiung triggered panic and some people were injured.

According to Taiwanese broadcaster TVBS and other outlets, someone shouted there was a person with a knife. People who took part in the event tried to escape all at once and pushed each other.

TVBS quoted city officials and police as saying that two participants had a quarrel and one of them had a pen. People around them mistook it for a knife.

Several people were injured in the uproar, but all the injuries are described as minor. The event resumed about 10 minutes later.
