Sixth body likely from missing SDF helicopter found NHK

Japanese government officials say rescuers have found another body believed to be that of a crewmember of the Ground Self-Defense Force helicopter that went missing off the southern prefecture of Okinawa. The body spotted on Tuesday is the sixth likely to be from the chopper.

The helicopter, carrying 10 personnel, dropped off the radar shortly after taking off from the island of Miyakojima on April 6.

Divers discovered five bodies on the seabed at a depth of 106 meters on Sunday.

The SDF had recovered four of them by Monday. It is working to bring up the two others and will continue searching for those still missing.

To determine the cause of the incident, the Ground Self-Defense Force plans to ask a private firm to recover what appears to be the helicopter's fuselage from the seabed.
