Tokyo reports 6,686 new COVID-19 cases, up 2,745 from a week earlier NHK

Japan's health ministry says 6,686 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Tokyo on Thursday. That's an increase of 2,745 from the same day last week.

This is the 12th consecutive day on which the number of new cases has been higher than it was a week before.

The number of severely ill COVID-19 patients on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines in Tokyo is 18. That's an increase of two from the previous day.

Also on Thursday, Tokyo had two deaths linked to COVID-19.
