Philippine authorities say tropical storm Nalgae has left at least 98 people dead and 63 missing in the country. The country's disaster agency released the figures on Monday. The storm caused flooding in many places as it moved across several Philippine islands over the weekend, dumping large amounts of rain. Maguindanao Province on Mindanao Island in the country's south suffered extended damage from flooding, landslides, and flash floods. Footage from the province shows rescue workers removing debris and dirt from a house struck by a landslide. Officials say some communities on the island of Luzon in the northern Philippines have been cut off by damaged roads and bridges. The Philippine government says it is hurrying to confirm the extent of the damage and to provide relief to affected people. Nalgae has moved away from the Philippines to the South China Sea. But a new tropical depression has spawned above waters east of the Philippines and is forecast to approach the country. Authorities are on high alert as the new tropical depression could trigger additional damage in places where the soil has been loosened by the rain so far.
