Japan confirms 108,281 new COVID cases and 415 deaths NHK

Japan's health ministry says it confirmed 108,281 new cases of the coronavirus nationwide on Sunday.

It also says 415 people died after contracting the virus, bringing the overall death toll to 62,679.

The number of seriously ill patients on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines stands at 672, down 21 from Saturday.

In Tokyo, 8,269 new cases were confirmed.

The daily tally is down 6,855 from a week ago and marks the fourth straight day of week-on-week decreases.

The ministry also confirmed 34 deaths in the capital.
