Russia's defense ministry says the country's forces shot down a Ukrainian missile over the southern Russian port city of Taganrog. Moscow is blaming Ukraine for injuries and damage caused by missile fragments.
Russian officials said on Friday that debris fell and damaged several buildings in the city. The country's state-run Tass news agency reported that 16 people were injured in the incident.
Foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that the "Russian side reserves the right to take harsh retaliatory measures."
Earlier in the day, the defense ministry said a Ukrainian drone had been shot down by air defenses in the Moscow region. The ministry said there are no reports of injuries or damage.
Ukraine has not responded to Russia's claims, but Ukrainian Presidential Adviser Mykhailo Podolyak posted a message on social media on Friday. He said, "Everything happening in Russia, including Taganrog, is an unconditional consequence of the large-scale war initiated by Russia."
Britain's defense ministry said in an intelligence update on Saturday that there has been "an uptick of fighting in two sectors in southern Ukraine" over the last 48 hours.
The ministry said the focus of the fighting is near the village of Robotyne, which is about 10 kilometers south of Orikhiv in the southern region of Zaporizhzhia.
It also said that Ukrainian forces have captured the village of Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region.
On Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted a video on social media. In the clip, Ukrainian soldiers state that they have taken the village.
