The internationally acclaimed French actor, Alain Delon, has died at age 88. Born outside Paris in 1935, Delon joined the military at 17 and then changed jobs multiple times. He was scouted in the southern city of Cannes, which is known for its International Film Festival, and became an actor. He rose to worldwide fame in 1960 when he appeared in "Plein Soleil" or "Purple Noon," directed by Rene Clement, in which he played a murderer trying to take on the identity of his victim. He starred in many films in the 1960s and 1970s, and also performed in TV dramas and on stage. Delon was idolized by people in Japan for his handsome looks and gestures in films. He retired in 2017 and had been in poor health since suffering a stroke in 2019. Earlier that year he received a Palme d'Honneur at the Cannes Film Festival. France's AFP news service quoted his family as saying he died at his home in France in their presence. Many French media reported on the French movie star's death and his achievements over the years.
