The US administration of President Joe Biden has approved arms sales totaling 428 million dollars to Taiwan and notified Congress of the move on Tuesday. The sales contain repair and replacement parts for Taiwan's fleet of F-16 fighters, C-130 transport planes and other US-supplied weapons systems. Chinese military aircraft have regularly crossed the so-called median line of the Taiwan Strait, an unofficial boundary, since US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan in August. The US Defense Department said, "The proposed sale will contribute to the sustainment of the recipient's aerial fleet, enhancing its ability to meet current and future threats." Taiwan's defense ministry expressed gratitude for the sale. It noted that the sale will help it to maintain proper equipment, replenish its air force's fighter jets, and meet the needs of defense operations and combat readiness training. Taiwan's military has frequently been forced to scramble fighter jets in response to increased Chinese military activities near Taiwan.
