The Houthi armed group in Yemen said Wednesday it has released the crew of a cargo ship it seized in the Red Sea in November 2023. The anti-government rebels said in a statement they freed the crew of the Galaxy Leader in coordination with parties including Hamas. They said the move was made in support of the ceasefire agreement on the conflict in the Gaza Strip. The announcement did not refer to the handover of the ship. It was operated by Japanese shipping firm Nippon Yusen, also known as NYK Line. Since November 2023, the Houthis, citing solidarity with Hamas, have repeatedly carried out ballistic missile and other attacks against Israel and raided ships traveling in the Red Sea.
