A senior official with the Thai police, currently investigating Myanmar scam organizations, said some groups are now shifting from Myanmar to Cambodia and Laos due to crackdowns by law enforcement.
Thatchai Pitaneelaboot, Royal Thai Police Senior Inspector General, told NHK on Monday that some of the groups, including Chinese nationals, are fleeing from Myawaddy in eastern Myanmar towards the north, near Myanmar's border with China.
He said authorities were trying to contain them inside Myawaddy, where they could then be arrested.
He added that the groups were moving their fraud operations from Myanmar to Cambodia and Laos.
Many foreign nationals have been forced to work in scam operations in crime hubs near the Thai border in eastern Myanmar.
