A court in China has sentenced a man to death for driving a car into a crowd, killing 35 people. The attack took place on November 11 at a sports facility in the city of Zhuhai, Guangdong Province.
Authorities detained Fan Weiqiu, who is in his 60s, at the scene.
The court said on Friday that he was dissatisfied about the conditions of his divorce and wanted to vent his anger.
Authorities in Jiangsu and Hunan provinces have canceled events in large cities during the New Year holiday season following a string of attacks on citizens that resulted in deaths and injuries.
Authorities in Zhuhai also canceled a marathon that was initially scheduled for December 8.
