The foreign ministers of the Group of Seven nations have pledged to work together to help achieve a durable peace in Ukraine. The G7's first foreign ministerial meeting since the inauguration of US President Donald Trump was held in the southern German city of Munich on Saturday. They exchanged their views on Ukraine, the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific region. A joint statement released after the talks said the G7 members underscored their commitment to help achieve a durable peace, and a strong and prosperous Ukraine. They also reaffirmed the need to develop robust security guarantees to ensure the war will not begin again. The document said any new, additional sanctions on Russia should be linked to whether Moscow enters into real, good-faith efforts to bring an enduring end to the war and provides Ukraine with long-term security and stability as a sovereign, independent country. The G7 condemned China's dual-use assistance to Russia, as well as military assistance by North Korea and Iran. During the meeting, Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi emphasized the need to continue to support Ukraine, and to extend mid-to-long-term assistance for its recovery and reconstruction. Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reportedly took part in the discussion on the Russian invasion.
