South Korean President Yoon still faces a criminal trial following his release from detention on Saturday. In a separate impeachment trial, South Korea's Constitutional Court is expected to decide as early as mid-March whether Yoon should be removed from office. Yoon was arrested and indicted in January on charges of leading an insurrection after his brief imposition of martial law in December. He was held in a detention center near Seoul. But on Friday, a district court in Seoul decided to end his detention, citing questions about the legality of Yoon's detainment process. He was released on Saturday and returned to the presidential residence for the first time since January 15. He is expected to stand in his criminal trial without being in custody. Separately, the Constitutional Court held the 11th and last hearing in his impeachment trial in late February. South Korean media say the court could rule on the case as early as next week. If the court upholds the impeachment, Yoon will be removed from office immediately. If the court dismisses it, Yoon will resume his duties.
