The Japanese government plans to present a wide range of measures to support Ukraine's reconstruction at a Tokyo conference to be held later this month. Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, and other government officials are set to attend the Japan-Ukraine Conference for Promotion of Economic Reconstruction slated for February 19. Representatives from Japanese and Ukrainian companies are also expected to join. Measures that the government plans to present at the meeting include support for recovery efforts such as landmine removal and debris disposal. Others include helping to improve the productivity of agriculture, which is Ukraine's main industry. The officials also plan to help expand Ukraine's digital business and power and transportation infrastructure. The tax treaty between the two countries is up for review, as promoting the participation of the private sector is seen as necessary to accelerate such support measures. The Japanese government apparently hopes to use the conference to highlight its efforts to maintain and strengthen the international order based on the rule of law.
