N.Korea ready to deploy 'new anti-aircraft missile system' NHK

North Korea says it may deploy a vessel carrying a new anti-aircraft missile system to deter what it describes as illegal intrusions by US reconnaissance aircraft.

A spokesperson for Pyongyang's General Staff of the Korean People's Army issued a statement on Friday via the state-run Korean Central News Agency.

It says the army scrambled fighter jets on Thursday after US aircraft intruded into North Korea's economic zone three times.

The statement also says the North is ready to take any action to safeguard its sovereignty.

Pyongyang also accused a US reconnaissance plane of illegal intrusions in July. The regime later tested what is said to be a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile.

Friday's statement came ahead of a trilateral summit between the United States, Japan and South Korea near Washington.
