Japanese police say a list of personal data on about 200,000 people has been confiscated in relation to the arrest of six Japanese who are believed to be members of a Philippine-based crime group called JP Dragon.
The police arrested Sanbonchiku Akira and five others on September 10 when they were transferred to Japan from the Philippines on suspicion of stealing a cash card from an 89-year-old man in Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo. The police served the suspects with fresh arrest warrants on Wednesday in connection with a theft case involving an 82-year-old woman.
The police also said the list was seized in the Philippines. They said it consists of about 4,600 sheets of paper and contains people&#039;s names, addresses and phone numbers. They noted the list also includes information on about 160 people who have filed complaints.
The police believe the suspects used the list to repeatedly undertake scam activities.  Some of the suspects were tasked with making phone calls to targets in Japan.
The investigators say the six arrested people are suspected of making phone calls to the woman in Kyoto Prefecture, claiming to be police. The investigators believe the six, along with other perpetrators, stole her cash card and withdrew 1.5 million yen, or roughly 10,000 dollars.
The police have not disclosed whether the suspects admitted to the charges, citing possible disruptions to the investigation.
