Cherry blossoms are now striking in Tokyo, thanks to rising temperatures. Weather officials announced on Thursday that the benchmark cherry tree of the popular Someiyoshino variety in central Tokyo has entered full bloom. The official announcement came four days later than the average for Tokyo, and 13 days later than last year. In recent years, cherry trees in Tokyo often started blooming early, with full bloom in March. The last time blossoms were not seen in Tokyo until April was 7 years ago. After a recent spell of unseasonably cold weather, temperatures in the city rose close to 20 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
