1. New Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae has embarked on her first overseas trip, visiting Malaysia for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meeting.
2. During the meeting, Takaichi will call for cooperation in promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific, addressing China's growing maritime assertiveness and economic coercion.
3. In addition to ASEAN discussions, Takaichi plans to confirm cooperation with ASEAN in advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and strengthening supply chains. She will also attend a Japan-led conference on carbon neutrality and economic growth, hold bilateral summits including with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, meet US President Donald Trump, and travel to South Korea for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum meeting.
