Hamas releases 3 Israeli, 5 Thai hostages in Gaza NHK

The Islamic group Hamas has released three Israeli hostages under the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip it reached with Israel. Five Thai hostages were also released in the third round of releases on Thursday.

The 6 week-ceasefire kicked off on January 19.

The Israeli military and others said those released on Thursday are a female Israeli soldier, a male Israeli civilian, a female Israeli civilian and five Thai nationals.

NHK captured the scene of the female soldier's release in Jabalia, northern Gaza. In the video, dozens of apparent Hamas fighters gathered at a makeshift stage where the hostage was placed, taking photos.

Under the deal, a total of 10 Israeli hostages have so far been released. An Israeli media report said the release of the Thai nationals was separate from the deal.

Meanwhile, a Palestinian media report said Israel released 110 Palestinian detainees as part of the exchange of hostages kept by Hamas and prisoners detained by Israel under the ceasefire agreement.

Under the deal, Hamas is set to release 23 more hostages, while Israel is also set to free more Palestinian detainees. Attention is focused on whether the releases will take place as agreed.
