National reconciliation in Syria remains uncertain, one month after the collapse of the ousted President Bashar al-Assad&#039;s government.
                
Syria&#039;s autocratic reign by two generations of the Assad family that spanned more than half a century ended on December 8.
                
The country&#039;s interim government initially planned to hold a national dialogue conference among representatives of various ethnic and religious groups early this month at the earliest, to discuss the future of Syria.
                
But the interim government&#039;s foreign minister, Asaad Hassan al-Shibani, has suggested that the meeting would be postponed. During a visit to Jordan on Tuesday, he did not state the reason for the postponement.
                
Shibani affirmed his willingness to convene the conference, describing it as a &quot;cornerstone of future Syria.&quot; He said an inclusive preparation committee for the conference will be formed.
                
The interim government is led by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, or HTS, which has been designated as a terrorist organization by the United Nations and other bodies.
                
The international community has been calling on Syria to rebuild the country by bringing all people, including minorities, together.
                
Amid the request, the HTS and other armed groups are expected to announce their disbandment at the planned dialogue conference.
                
But armed clashes between Kurdish forces and Turkish-backed groups continue in the north of the country.
                
In the central part, more than 950 people, including soldiers in the former Assad government, have been detained over the last few days.
