The Islamic group Hamas says it will soon respond to a US-proposed 20-point peace plan to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
On Monday, the United States proposed the peace plan that includes a ceasefire in the enclave, the release of hostages and the disarmament of Hamas.
US President Donald Trump has been urging the Islamic group to accept the proposal. He said if it does not, "it's going to be a very sad end."
Hamas posted a series of messages on social media, quoting remarks by a senior official during an interview by Qatar-based broadcaster Al-Jazeera.
Hamas said it received the plan on Monday, and began internal and external consultations the following day.
The group said it will discuss the plan with the aim of stopping the war and massacres. Hamas said it has some reservations about the plan and will announce its position on it very soon.
Hamas had demanded a complete withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces from the Gaza Strip in previous ceasefire negotiations. The US-proposed plan says that "battle lines will remain frozen until conditions are met for the complete staged withdrawal."
Attention is focused on how Hamas will respond to the proposal.
