North Korea says its spy satellite has taken imagery of the US Kadena Air Base in Japan's southwestern prefecture of Okinawa. The Rodong Sinmun, the ruling Workers' Party newspaper, reported on Thursday that the country's leader Kim Jong Un received satellite photos taken on Wednesday morning. The newspaper says the images were submitted by the Pyongyang General Control Center of the country's aerospace administration. It says Kim also received photos of the San Diego Naval Base in the US state of California and the Suez Canal in Egypt. North Korea earlier announced that it will start an official mission of the reconnaissance satellite on Friday which Pyongyang claims to have launched last week. Countries relevant to the North Korean issue are carefully analyzing the report. Pyongyang has not made satellite photos public so far. Meanwhile, Kim Yo Jong, the younger sister of Kim Jong Un, issued a statement in response to the UN Security Council's emergency meeting on Monday. The meeting was held to address the satellite launch claimed by the North. The statement says North Korea will continue to exercise its sovereign rights in a dignified manner without being restricted in the future, suggesting Pyongyang's intention to launch more satellites.
