US President Joe Biden says the Palestinian Authority should ultimately govern the Gaza Strip and the West Bank following the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic group Hamas. Biden contributed an opinion article to the Washington Post on Saturday. He said, "As we strive for peace, Gaza and the West Bank should be reunited under a single governance structure, ultimately under a revitalized Palestinian Authority, as we all work toward a two-state solution." Regarding the continuing clashes between residents and Jewish settlers in the West Bank of the Jordan River, Biden said that the United States is ready to take "our own steps, including issuing visa bans against extremists attacking civilians" there.
