Indonesia, Malaysia vow to keep on backing Palestine NHK

Muslim-majority Indonesia and Malaysia have long been supporters of Palestinian independence, and their leaders say that's not about to change.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Monday in Kuala Lumpur.

Prabowo said, "We will support Palestine's independence, and we are very firm that the only solution is a two-state solution."

The Indonesian leader was on his first state visit to Malaysia since taking office last year.

He says he backs Malaysia as this year's chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. The bloc faces multiple challenges, including territorial disputes at sea and the conflict in Myanmar.

Anwar says Malaysia and Indonesia will boost ties, including in the fields of energy and defense.
