Health authorities in Gaza say the number of confirmed deaths in the Palestinian enclave has topped 25,000 since the conflict between Israel and Hamas began.
                
In a bid to crush Hamas, the Israeli military is continuing airstrikes and ground offensives in the southern city of Khan Younis and elsewhere in Gaza.
                
The health authorities said in a statement on Sunday that 178 people were killed during the past 24 hours, bringing the overall death toll to 25,105.
                
International aid group Save the Children says more than 10,000 of the fatalities were children, based on data from the Gaza authorities.
                
In view of the rising civilian casualties, the United States and Arab countries say Israel and Palestine should achieve peace through a two-state solution.
                
However, Israel&#039;s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on social media on Saturday that he &quot;will not compromise on full Israeli control&quot; over Gaza. He said, &quot;This is contrary to a Palestinian state.&quot;
                
Some Israelis oppose his hardline stance. Thousands of people gathered in central Tel Aviv on Saturday, demanding his administration step down for an election.
                
Iran, which backs Hamas, said on Saturday that five of its military advisers in Syria were killed by an Israeli attack.
                
Israel and the Iran-backed Shia group Hezbollah in Lebanon also continue to exchange fire, raising tensions across the Middle East.
