A second strong earthquake struck Ishikawa Prefecture on the Sea of Japan coast on Friday. The quake occurred at around 9:58 p.m.. It had an estimated magnitude of 5.8, and was focused in the Noto region at a depth of 10 kilometers. The quake registered an intensity of upper 5 on the Japanese seismic scale of zero to 7 in the city of Suzu, and lower 5 in the town of Noto. The Noto region was earlier hit by a magnitude 6.5 earthquake at around 2:42 p.m. Friday. It was followed by a series of smaller tremors. Japan's Meteorological Agency has warned that a strong quake with the same intensity as the initial tremor could occur in the region over the coming week or so.
