Rubio: US could restart talks when Ukraine is ready to make peace NHK

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the United States will be ready to reengage with Ukraine after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's tense exchange with President Donald Trump.



Marco Rubio appeared on an ABC News program on Sunday, two days after talks between the two presidents broke down.



Rubio said the US is trying to get Russian President Vladimir Putin to a negotiating table. He said: "Don't do anything to disrupt that. And that's what Zelenskyy did." He added: "And I honestly am puzzled. I just don't understand."



Rubio also said that "we'll be ready to reengage" when Ukraine is ready to make peace.



US House Speaker Mike Johnson told NBC News that "something has to change." He said either Zelenskyy "needs to come to his senses and come back to the table in gratitude, or someone else needs to lead" Ukraine.
