Probe begins after fatal bus fire outside Bangkok NHK

Investigations are underway in Thailand after a bus caught fire on the outskirts of Bangkok. Police say 20 schoolchildren and three teachers died.

Tuesday's tragedy has left the nation in shock. The bus was on a school trip, and 45 people were onboard. Authorities say the blaze likely started after a wheel broke and the vehicle hit a barrier.

The driver fled, but later turned himself in. He's been charged with reckless driving, and failing to help others.
Authorities say the bus ran on natural gas.

Thailand's education ministry has suspended school field trips nationwide until safety measures are reviewed.

Prime Minster Paetongtarn Shinawatra offered her condolences to the bereaved families in a social media post. She also says the government will provide support, and cover medical expenses for the injured.
