France and Ukraine have signed a long-term bilateral security agreement, in which Kyiv will receive up to 3 billion euros, or about 3.2 billion dollars, in additional military support this year. French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sealed the pact in Paris at their summit on Friday. Under the deal, France will help increase Ukraine's air defense and shelling capabilities, train their soldiers and improve interoperability with NATO member nations. At a joint news conference held after the talks, Macron affirmed Paris's long-term commitment to support Ukraine from the provision of military equipment to bilateral defense industry cooperation. He also said he will travel to Ukraine in March. Zelenskyy said they have prepared, as well as signed an ambitious and substantive security agreement. Bilateral security agreements are being made based on a joint declaration adopted at the Group of Seven summit last July. France has become the third country after Britain and Germany to reach an agreement with Ukraine.
