Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has visited a US military base in Germany amid a stalemate in the US Congress over additional aid to Ukraine.
Zelenskyy said in a social media post on Thursday that he arrived at the US Army Command in Europe, which is based in Germany.
He said that Ukraine critically needs US military aid to achieve victory. He also expressed hope that "the US Congress will soon adopt the crucial decision to continue such vital support for Ukraine."
The US Congress has not approved an emergency spending bill that includes aid to Ukraine as some Republicans are reluctant to continue support for Kyiv.
The Ukrainian Air Force said on Thursday that it shot down one of three Kinzhal missiles near Kyiv. Russia claims they are hypersonic.
The Air Force said that the other two flew to the western region of Khmelnytskyi. It is unknown whether there were any casualties.
Ukraine says Russia launched 50 air bombings and 14 drone attacks in southern Ukraine and other areas on Thursday.
Meanwhile, before leaving for Germany, Zelenskyy met leaders of the five Nordic nations in Norway to discuss their countries' military assistance.
Zelenskyy posted a video message on social media on Friday, referring to the decision by European Union nations to agree to open membership talks with Ukraine.
He said, "This is a truly remarkable result for Ukraine and for the whole of Europe --- I am grateful to everyone who supported us."
Zelenskyy also said that this step will be followed by others and that Ukraine will complete the massive job of integrating the state and all institutions into the EU.
He stressed that the time will come when Ukrainians will be able to celebrate the country's accession to the EU.
