LA Dodgers' Ohtani shortlisted for NL MVP, Yamamoto for Cy Young NHK

In Major League Baseball, Ohtani Shohei of the Los Angeles Dodgers is one of the three finalists for the season's National League's Most Valuable Player award.
Ohtani returned as a two-way player this season, hitting 55 home runs, his personal best, and pitching 14 games with an earned run average of 2.87.
The other two candidates are Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies, who topped the National League with 56 homers, and Juan Soto of the New York Mets, who had 43 home runs and 38 stolen bases.
If Ohtani wins, this would be his fourth MVP award and his third straight, including when he played in the American League with the Los Angeles Angels.
Another Dodgers player, Yamamoto Yoshinobu, has been named one of the three finalists for the National League Cy Young Award, given to the best pitcher.
The 27-year-old had 12 wins in his second season in the Major Leagues, with an earned run average of 2.49, the second best in the league.
The other two finalists for the award are Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates, who has been named the National League Outstanding Pitcher for his 1.97 earned run average, and Cristopher Sanchez of the Philadelphia Phillies.
If Yamamoto wins, he would be the first Japanese pitcher to be awarded the Cy Young.
