An idea of a partial ceasefire with Russia is likely to be discussed at talks between Ukrainian and United States officials in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. Speaking to reporters in Saudi Arabia on Monday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed a positive view on the idea presented by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier this month. Zelenskyy said in a social media post on March 4: "We are ready to work fast to end the war, and the first stages could be the release of prisoners and truce in the sky--ban on missiles, long-ranged drones, bombs on energy and other civilian infrastructure-- and truce in the sea immediately, if Russia will do the same." About the idea, Rubio said, "I'm not saying that alone is enough, but it's the kind of concession you would need to see in order to end this conflict." He said, "Ideally, you could just reach a truce and end the whole conflict, but it probably could begin with some cessation of hostilities of some form or fashion." Asked about the restoration of suspended intelligence sharing and arms supplies, Rubio suggested the decision on the matter would be up to the results of the talks. The secretary of state said, "We'll see how the rest of the talks go tomorrow." He said, "if we emerge there with a good meeting" and "can report back to the President, I think decisions will be made in regards to the pause."
