Ukraine's security authorities have shown media outlets what they say are fragments of a new intermediate-range ballistic missile that Russia fired last week. Russia attacked the eastern Ukrainian city of Dnipro with a missile known as the Oreshnik on Thursday. Moscow said the firing was in response to Ukraine's use of Western-supplied long-range weapons in Russian territory. Ukraine's security agency said it gathered pieces of the missile and reporters from Reuters and AP viewed them on Sunday. The images show what appear to be charred pieces and a round fragment with tubular protrusions. An expert with Ukraine's security service says this is the first time the remains of such a missile have been discovered on Ukrainian territory. The expert says the ballistic missile damaged infrastructure in Dnipro. Ukraine's defense intelligence agency says its analysis shows the missile was launched from southern Russia, and flew for 15 minutes before striking Dnipro, 900 kilometers away. The agency says the missile's peak speed was at least Mach 11, or about 13,000 kilometers per hour.
