The Japanese government has launched a new program to support foreign nationals who have fled conflict zones, but do not meet Japan's criteria for refugee status. Evacuees who qualify will be recognized as "quasi-refugees." The program was introduced on Friday with an eye on people from Ukraine. If they wish, evacuees can receive Japanese language lessons and other guidance for living in Japan. They will also be entitled to financial support. The Immigration Services Agency says it will do its best to smoothly implement the program and ensure that those who are recognized as evacuees receive appropriate assistance.
