People in the US and around the world are waiting to hear former US President Donald Trump's promised "very big announcement" scheduled for Tuesday.
The suspense is over whether or not he will declare his bid to run for another term in the 2024 presidential election.

Trump said in a speech made on Monday last week, a day before the midterm elections, that he was going to make a "very big announcement" on Tuesday from his Florida residence Mar-a-Lago.

The remark was widely seen as a hint that Trump would run for the presidency in 2024, as he had repeatedly tipped his intention to do so during the midterm election campaigning.

Trump earlier wrote on his social media network that "Hopefully today will turn out to be one of the most important days in the history of our country!"

Trump supporters began gathering around Mar-a-Lago ahead of the planned announcement.

A woman said, "it is not the personality, it is the policies" and added, "I would support President Trump in 2024, absolutely."

One man said, "He is president now" and "Donald J Trump is and has been our commander-in-chief."

But Trump is facing calls by fellow Republicans to take responsibility for the subpar midterm election results. Multiple Senate candidates he backed have lost already or are certain to lose in closely-contested states.
