Fukui City in central Japan has begun selling large household junk items that can still be used on the country's major online flea market. Mayor Saigyo Shigeru and officials from flea market app operator Mercari put 20 such items on sale on Wednesday. They include a unicycle for children and a guitar. The mayor said many unwanted household items can be reused. He expressed hope that the initiative will contribute to creating a recycle-oriented society. The city does not deliver sold items, but instead asks buyers to pick them up at its resource collection facility. Officials say the profits will be used to cover the cost of collecting recyclable resources. Fukui officials say they receive around 30,000 applications for the collection of oversized trash a year. They plan to increase the number of items for sale in the future.
