Analysts say Russian forces are focusing on preparations for a large-scale counteroffensive by Ukrainian forces, rather than concentrating their efforts on attacks along the frontline.

A commander of pro-Russian forces in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk wrote on social media on Saturday that there are no supplies of ammunition.

He said the Russian command has apparently decided to stop supplying ammunition to some areas, and this is "very painful" for units on the frontline.

A US think tank, the Institute for the Study of War, said on Saturday that the statement "indicates that the Russian command must prioritize artillery ammunition supplies rigorously due to shortages."

A senior member of the Ukrainian Ground Forces told local media on Saturday that Russia's offensive potential continues to decline. He also reportedly said the current attacks are focused on dispersing Ukrainian troops in anticipation of a counteroffensive operation.
