After the meeting of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders, Japan's Prime Minister Kishida Fumio said he will continue to make efforts to get the international community to work together. The two-day APEC summit in San Francisco ended on Friday. Kishida told reporters that Japan has coordinated with its allies and like-minded countries in an effort to build a free and open international order based on the rule of law. He added they have stirred diverse discussions that sincerely contributed to initiatives to resolve each and every challenge. Kishida also reflected on his bilateral summit with US President Joe Biden. He says the two countries confirmed further cooperation as allies, keeping in mind various issues concerning the Middle East, Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific region. Kishida spoke on the achievements of the Japan-China summit meeting. Kishida and Chinese President Xi Jinping met on Thursday for the first time in a year. He said Japan and China have various possibilities for cooperation, and also challenges and pending issues. He stressed that the two countries held constructive dialogue from a broad perspective. The Japanese prime minister also commented on the discussion he had over China suspending Japanese seafood imports following Japan's release of treated and diluted water from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Kishida said his country will take every opportunity to strongly call for the immediate lifting of the suspension and would like to encourage scientific analysis, calm judgment based on facts and a constructive attitude. He added that he believes that scientific analysis of the treated water shows it is safe, and understanding based on facts is commonly shared internationally.
