Mino Monta, a Japanese television presenter known for his work hosting a variety of programs, has died. He was 80 years old. A company in which Mino served as chairperson announced on its website that he passed away on Saturday. Mino joined a radio broadcaster in 1967 and his witty style made him a popular late-night personality. He also hosted an afternoon TV program as a freelancer for about 20 years starting in 1989. His direct style of conversation attracted viewers and contributed to his enduring popularity. Mino hosted NHK's annual New Year's Eve live music show "Kohaku Utagassen" in 2005. He was certified by Guinness World Records as the TV host with the most hours of live television appearances in a week.
